Well. the morning started out as a gusty wet miserable one. I got a call from John Metelerkamp and he said to me “ Hey Dave I think we should call this one ! “
I said to him that I would give it a call in the next 30 minutes, but having brought our chef Mark up from Cape Town on Thursday, spent the previous evening testing and preparing the meals and ingredients and got all the equipment packed and ready, we decided to go through and check out how it was at the venue.
We arrived at Metelerkamps store and were greeted by closed doors, all the staff huddled indoors and John showing me the “man you are crazy” sign by motioning in circles around his ears.
I asked him if he was scared of a little wind and rain, after all, John is a well known sailor and fisherman in Knysna . He laughed and said “well give it a go and let’s see what happens !”
We unpacked all the Ultimate Convector braais and set them up in a half circle in the corner close to the door. We also decided to take along our new combination model where we combined the Master Braai with the Ultimate Convection Grill, just to to see people’s reaction.
We loaded the charcoal into the charcoal fire boxes and fired them up.
People gathered wondering just what we were doing, especially given that there was a guy in a Chef’s jacket preparing the meal.
Within about 30 minutes we were ready to start with the prepared menu of:
Starters:
Apple and Blueberry Muffins
Main:
Sausages wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cheese served with two options
Then the final course:
Apple Cheesecake baked in a hollowed out apple.
We also tried a recipe we saw on the net where we made apple roses in a pastry surround baked in a muffin tray.
The response was great and many of the people asked us to let them in on the recipes that we used, so we have decided to allow you to download them right here:
1.) Apple and Blueberry Muffins
2.) Eggs Benedict - Banting option
3.) Eggs Benedict - Non Banting option
4.) Download the recipes here
