Despite colder weather the sail past happened ....well they are sailors, what do you expect. We saw some local special guests on the newly launched Knysna Yacht Company Yacht in the form of the Mayor, Mark Willemse and the past Commodore Albert Lombard onboard as they enjoyed the trip. So proud of the team at Botany for all their hard work on this boat, the Stainless steel pull pits, boarding gates , solar panel mountings on the rear roof and the rest of the stainless steel looked amazing. We then cut up an onion and some mushrooms into similar sizes and added them to the skewer to form a 240 mm sosatie. We also got some ribs and Beryl salted them and sprinkled some pepper to taste. We then brushed some olive oil over them and placed them onto the Convector Grill which we had fired up in direct mode but on the left hand side of the braai. We wanted to keep the other side available to keep the cooked things warm and also to warm the pita and wraps when the meat was done. We also salted and pepper dusted the ribs lightly and and gave them a light coating of olive oil, and popped them onto the fire. About 25 minutes later it was time for the bread parts to get a quick warm up and we were ready to eat...... and enjoy a nice cold beer and a glass of wine ! Braai Broodjies with a twist: We sliced up the bread we made previously and added a selection of ingredients like chutney as a base, topped with cheese, then some cold meat and tomato, sliced red and yellow peppers, a bit more cheese and then the top piece of bread. We then buttered the outside of the sandwich to stop it sticking onto the folding sandwich grid and slid the loop over the handles, and out onto the fire that we set up in semi direct mode ( baskets slightly apart in the centre of the base ) in the Ultimate Convector Grill. Then we waited about 3 mins and flipped the grid over. By then the bread have started to brown around the edges and we could begin to smell that tell tale toasty smell !! Mmmmm ! Smelt GOOOOD ! We did some without tomato for the fussy ones and some with Gluten Free bread for "The one who may not eat wheat" and they all came out magic. Then we added a bit of thin wood kindling, got the flames up a bit and popped on some pork steaks and steaks. I note that there were some things that were not altogether level with this but a fun well fed time was had by all.... Watch out for more with the next adventure on cooking on the Ultimate Convector Grill continues.... Have a look at what Johan Van Der Westhuizen from Plett had to say about our Ultimate Drum Braai....5/8/2018 Well it was time to take a weekend away and Swellendam was one of those places we had not really explored. The day was drawing close to its end so Mark decided to put the meat onto the Botany Ultimate Convector grill. He was doing bacon wrapped sausages, boerewors and camembert cheese filled mushrooms, chops and chicken wrapped in bacon The Convector Grill was set up in indirect cooking mode, with the fire baskets set on the outside of the braai. 22 briquettes in each basket. The mushrooms were popped into the centre so that they did not burn. The meat dishes were on the outside and a close eye made sure they were cooked to perfection....under the watchful eye of our very own Chef Mark.
