Bathroom and Staircase Assistance Products
What is the thing elderly or disabled people fear
the most...?
"The thing older people fear most is falling in a bathroom OR falling down stairs !"
It is a fact, out of a survey done with elderly people, the thing they fear most is slipping while they are in the bath or shower. The obvious thing that cuases that fear is that they will not be able to get assistance and may be left unattended for a long time in the bathroom.
After chatting to many of these folk, I found it interesting to hear that the feeling of security from there being a rail in the bath or alongside the toilet or shower gave them a much higher level of confidence and allowed them to retain their independance.
More interestingly is the fact that this feeling is not only limited to those in their 70's and 80's, but transposes to anyone who has a lower back complaint, has had a leg or knee operation or is suffering with joint pain, and many of these are people who are actively involved in sport.
We also have added a feature to our handle products where we provide a section that has grip lines machined onto the surface. What this does is offer resistance to ones hand slipping accross the handle if there is any moisture on hands or the rail....and it looks pretty too !
Our handles are supplied in standard sizes of 500 mm mm and 740 mm, but we can make to your exact requirements, all you need to do is provide outer dimensions and the shape of the rail you require.
HINTS AND TIPS ON ASSIST RAILS :
You know what I am about to say is true.... If you drill to fit a rail onto a wall, the plumber will have run his pipe accross that path ... so we have found that it is wise to try and establish where the piping was installed prior to drilling for the installation. If there seems no guaranteed way of establishing where the pipes run, a quick test can be to allow the hot water to run in the bath or shower and run your hand over the wall surface where you want to install the rails. You will feel a slight temperature difference where the hot pipes run in the wall (if they have not been installed too deep). The other way is to see if someone has a meter that can detect metal in the wall. Unfortunately this will not work if you have polycarp piping installed, as the detector is only capable of checking metal or electrical sources.
